The Opoku Onyina Factor..CitiTv Editorial

14 February, 2024 Posted by E. K. Acquah General News

I listened to a CitiTV editorial on Point of View by my friend Bernard Avle, on the potential vice presidential candidates for the two main political parties. What struck me in his presentation was the name of Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah as a possible candidate for consideration by the NPP.

The revelation got me thinking on the pros and cons of such a consideration. As I brooded over it, I realized it would be a great idea, for both NPP and NDC, and for that matter, all political parties, to consider a few lessons from the church of Pentecost.

The specific lesson I propose is in the church’s mantra and strategy on Self Propagating, Self Supporting, and Self-Governing. The Church of Pentecost is one of the few organizations in Ghana that has been able to mobilize indigenous resources to do great exploits and support mission work across nations without begging for foreign Aid.

The knowledge and skills of those who have been instrumental in this drive, therefore, could be tapped by either the NDC, NPP,  PPP, CPP, GUM, Butterfly, Lion or Sheep or any serious political party intending to reduce dependence on foreign bronze plates and utilizing indigenous golden plates.

Apart from Apostle Professor Opoku Onyina, there have been other fine personalities who could be considered for office. These are men who have been in the thick of affairs in leading the church in achieving this commendable feat. Their experiences could, therefore, be brought to bear  as vice Presidential candidates, Ministers (such as Ministry of Indigenous Mobilization and Development), Advisors, Local Governance, Special Aids, etc.

Such moves should be looked at purely on a nationalistic view, irrespective of partisan considerations. So that these personalities can openly and wholeheartedly serve the Nation without thinking that their association with a political party would make them Partisan.

Overly, partisan political tags are making the Nation miss many great brains in the Religious, Corporate, CSO, etc. world. A major reason being the fear that taking up any political position would put them in partisan jacket, and attract unjustifiable enemies and division, as if all the political parties are not Ghanaians.

Let us bring true meaning to the Possessing the Nation Agenda and support fine brains being a blessing to the nation (irrespective of the political party).

God bless our homeland Ghana
